Composite Cladding Courtyard Makeover in Melbourne's Western Suburbs

Introduction

This Western Suburbs project transformed a mismatched backyard courtyard into a warm, modern outdoor retreat. Superdeck worked together with J Plus Landscaping to deliver a seamless cladding solution that brings the whole space together.

The original courtyard was enclosed by a patchwork of rendered panels, with gaps exposing the old timber paling fence and the neighbouring properties behind. The built-in bench seating had weathered over time, and the space felt unfinished and lacked privacy. The homeowners wanted a cohesive, private outdoor area that would look good for years without constant upkeep.

Design and Execution

J Plus Landscaping replaced the patchy rendered panels with continuous walls of composite cladding supplied by Superdeck. The boards were installed horizontally with fine shadow lines, wrapping around the corner of the courtyard to create one clean, uninterrupted backdrop.

The warm, timber-look finish was chosen to bring natural warmth to the space while hiding the old fence and adding full privacy from neighbouring homes. The existing L-shaped bench was refreshed with a matching composite decking top, so the seating now ties in perfectly with the walls.

Small wall-mounted lights were added along the cladding, making the courtyard just as inviting in the evening as it is during the day.

Results

The finished courtyard feels completely different. The continuous cladding gives the space a polished, architectural look, while the warm tones create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

The homeowners now enjoy a private corner for morning coffee or evening drinks, without looking out at old fencing. Because composite cladding will not rot, warp or need staining, the walls will keep their colour and finish with very little maintenance.

Conclusion

This Western Suburbs project shows how composite cladding can turn a tired, disjointed courtyard into a stylish and private outdoor room. Through the partnership between Superdeck and J Plus Landscaping, this family now has a warm, low-maintenance space that adds real character and value to their home.

We wanted more privacy in the courtyard as the old fence was looking tired and there were gaps between the panels. The new cladding has made a big difference, and the matching bench top makes the whole area feel more finished. It’s a much nicer place to sit now.
